NEW YORK, NY – October 23, 2026 – The Sebastian Chacon Scholarship for Latinos in the Arts announces a scholarship opportunity for undergraduate students pursuing education in creative disciplines, including theatre, film, music, writing, visual arts, photography, fashion, and related fields. The initiative seeks to support an emerging Latino artist whose originality, curiosity, and commitment to creative expression reflect a distinctive artistic perspective.
Founded by actor, producer, and entrepreneur Sebastian Chacon, the scholarship aims to expand opportunities for emerging Latino artists while encouraging the freedom to explore ideas beyond the expectations often placed on artists from underrepresented communities.
“I’ve spent much of my career confronting the limitations of how Latino people are portrayed,” said Chacon. “As artists, we’re often asked to represent an entire community, a responsibility we never sought but cannot entirely escape. I believe that burden is also a privilege. We owe it to one another to expand what is possible. This scholarship is a small part of that commitment.” An Invitation to Emerging Artists
The scholarship invites applicants to reflect on what drives them to create, the questions they hope to explore with their chosen discipline, and the experiences that have shaped their artistic perspectives. Applicants are encouraged to consider the role their personal backgrounds have played in their lives. However, their artistic work need not address Latino identity or cultural themes directly. The program welcomes a broad range of creative interests and recognizes that each artist brings an individual perspective to the world. Students may also submit a small portfolio or sample of their creative work, such as photographs, drawings, writing, designs, recordings, or examples of other artistic projects. These materials are optional and intended to provide additional insight into an applicant’s creative practice.
A Commitment to Expanding Artistic Possibilities
Sebastian Chacon brings a background in theater, television, film, and independent production to the initiative. He is widely recognized for his portrayal of Warren Rojas in the Amazon Prime Video series Daisy Jones & the Six. His professional work also includes appearances in The Get Down, Mr. Robot, Narcos, Pose, and the film Emergency.
Chacon’s connection to Latino representation also informs the scholarship’s central theme. During his work on Daisy Jones & the Six, he advocated for the character’s surname to change from Rhodes, as it appears in the original book, to Rojas. The change helped reflect the character’s Latino identity on screen and forms part of Chacon’s broader interest in bringing greater complexity and authenticity to the roles available to Latino performers.
Beyond his acting career, Sebastian Chacon co-founded Bravado Pictures, an independent production company centered on culturally authentic storytelling. This work reflects a broader interest in creating space for perspectives that may be underrepresented in mainstream entertainment. The scholarship extends that focus to students beginning their own creative journeys, offering financial support and recognition to an emerging artist.
Applications and Deadlines
The scholarship is open to Latino undergraduate students enrolled in, or preparing to attend, an accredited college, university, or arts program in the United States. One selected student will receive a $1,000 award to help offset educational expenses and support their artistic development. Applicants must submit an original essay describing their artistic interests, motivations, and ambitions. Optional creative work samples may accompany the essay. The application deadline is July 15, 2027, with the selected recipient scheduled to be announced on August 15, 2027.
